Welcome to Highlands Village Pre-School. The Pre-School has been in operation since 1998. The Pre-School is open term time only, for 38 weeks of the year.
Ofsted Registered EY382089
The pre-school aims to provide a safe and stimulating environment where children can increase their social, emotional and intellectual experiences and where the parents and carer’s of these children may also be involved in their development. We fully recognise that every child is an individual, with different strengths and needs, and we aim to recognise these individual strengths and needs and provide appropriate activities in which each child can participate at their own level and develop their skills at their own pace.
During the year, we will follow the childrens interests and plan in the moment. Alongside a wide variety of adult led activities which are planned to enhance the children’s development and knowledge. We do not provide "formal educational " activities, such as reading and writing, but aim to help your child develop the skills required for when they start school. These skills include counting and recognising numbers up to Ten, recognising letters of the alphabet and forming letters. We also aim to help and encourage our children to develop the basic skills of Name recognition and mark making. We also aim to develop the children's awareness of Shape, Size and Colours.
Play that is well planned and enjoyable helps children to think, to increase their understanding and to improve their language abilities. It allows children to be creative, to investigate and explore, to experiment and to draw their own conclusions. We aim to provide an environment in which each child is able to experience this alongside other children and adults.

TRAINING AND INSET DAYS
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) requires every early years practitioner to provide a minimum of five days training per year. All our Pre-school team attend various training programmes throughout the school year which ensures that they have every opportunity to improve and develop their skills. These training days do not affect the pre-school in any way as staff ratios are covered by other members staff members.
In addition, we are required by OFSTED to hold in house training similar to those successfully established in all primary schools. Pre-schools are required to hold five training days per year. These staff training days are charged to you as a normal nursery day as all staff have to attend and are paid for attending as well as the pre-school paying for the courses and the hire of the hall. Some inset days will be held at an alternative venue depending on the course.
